MASSOTHERAPY - Feel Better Now!

What is Massage Like?

Pain & Stress:

Your body is a work in progress.  The physical and emotional pressures of your life can push you out of balance causing a variety of restrictions and discomfort.  Left unattended you become more and more stresssed and unhealthy.

Each massage session is a special respite from the pressures of the world and an opportunity for change and improvement.

Before Your Massage:

Before each massage session we will talk about how you are feeling, what your goals are for that day, and how I can help.  I will leave the room while you undress and relax under a soft sheet.  (Most people undress completely, though you may choose to wear underwear.)

Since each of us faces unique physical and emotional challenges, sessions are tailored to meet your individual needs.  Goals may be to relieve pain, restore calm, or expand consciousness.  I will use my knowledge, skill, and intuition to help you reach your particular goals.

During Your Massage:

During the massage session your muscles are pressed and stretched to release tensions and restore your body to balance and function.  We will adjust your body position and the pressure of my touch as needed for maximum effectiveness.  If you are uncomfortable at any time, just let me know and I'll make adjustments.  There are many good roads on the way to health.  I want you to enjoy the journey!

I will use a light massage lotion which is good for your skin and absorbs well.  It is professional quality, designed to allow the best pressure into your muscles.

Many people just close their eyes and relax completely; others prefer to talk.  This is your time.  Do what feels comfortable to you.  Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

How will it Feel?

Massage should feel wonderful!  The saying "no pain, no gain" is not true for massage.  The most effective and deepest massage works with the body's natural responses, not against them.  Working in an area of injuy may at first cause some discomfort, which should lessen quickly.

After your Massage:

I will leave the room while you get dressed.  You have been relaxing for a long time.  There is no need to rush now.  As you get up, move slowly at first.

Following a session, people usually feel freedom from pain and profound relaxation. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience an increase in energy that can last for several days.

Massage Styles:

There are many different styles of massage. I practice Swedish Massage and Ortho-Bionomy.

Swedish Massage is what most people are familiar with.  It uses long flowing strokes, deep kneading, surface friction, light tapping, and joint movement to improve circulation, increase flexibility and relieve stress.

I practice an integrative style, which begins with Swedish massage adding other techniques as needed.

If there is a particular therapy that you are interested in, please ask me about it!

Ortho-Bionomy is a very effective therapy developed by osteopaths.  This gentle work uses specific body movement and positioning to promote change of pain and stress patterns. This is effective in alleviating muscle tension, soothing joints, improving circulation, and relaxing the entire body.
